Recently, TGM Vidyaniketan has bagged the Global School Award of 2021 for Best in Co Curricular Excellence by AKS Education Awards. This achievement becomes more valuable when we think about the effect of the Covid 19 pandemic on the educational sector all around the world. When most of the schools were confused about how to handle academic sessions in online mode, it is an unmatched achievement by TGM to not only provide academic but also non academic activities effectively during the pandemic. Let’s analyze the strategies followed by TGM school making them worthy of this prestigious award.
TGM CLUBS TO PLAN AND COORDINATE ALL NON ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES OF SCHOOL
During the pandemic even though the students and teachers were able to effectively adapt to the online mode of education, gradually their interest decreased. Therefore to increase the attention and engagement of students TGM made sure the effective functioning of more than thirteen different clubs in school including Science Club, Social and Heritage Club, Mathematics Club, Malayalam Club, Literary Club, Hindi Club, IT Club, Eco & Health Club Hindustan Scouts and Guides, Junior Redcross Unit and so on.The activities and programs of the clubs were organized by students under the supervision of club coordinators.During the initial month of the academic year, the inauguration activities of all clubs and committees were done thus starting the inter club competitions, events, and numerous training sessions for students, parents and teachers. Each club was assigned to celebrate at-least 10 world celebrated days in addition to the general events thus improving the organizational and leadership qualities of students. LAUNCHING TGM MEDIA AND FM
The school launched its official YouTube Media Channel in which the students took different roles as per their interests under the Media Club. This became the platform for the students to exhibit their talent and skills in various areas like news reporting, interviews, radio show, news readings, news editing etc. The interested students are guided to do all these activities and publish their work in the YouTube news channel of TGM. The interviews and surveys conducted by the students received the appreciation of many.
PROJECT ‘DIKONIA’ – THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM TO REACH TO THE PUBLIC
Each year TGM selects a theme-based community outreach program in which the students will do surveys, street play, campaigns, flash mobs etc. to raise awareness about the theme chosen such as Learning Disability, Say No to Tobacco, Junk Food and Cancer, Mental Happiness, and so on. During the pandemic year TGM chose the theme ‘Facing Covid Together’ raising awareness about the pandemic by releasing short films, dramas, songs, and so on.
The above mentioned initiatives went on smoothly during the pandemic due to the will and hard work of TGM’s teachers and students. The willingness of teachers to adapt to the new education system made it easy for TGM to reach out to its students effectively. Finally the award that TGM received was the result of their unmatched loyalty to their motto of “together to excellence!!!”
